Archive Preset Compresses PDF Images Again
The Archive preset of PDF to Compress downsamples images to 40 DPI again, as its description says. The Lossless preset now keeps PDF/A files PDF/A.
Fixes
- Archive preset - since August 2025 it limited images to 300 DPI at quality 80, so it barely shrank image-heavy files. It now limits them to 40 DPI at quality 60 again. It still keeps a PDF/A file's conformance level, fonts, metadata, and tags.
- Lossless preset - a PDF/A file could come back as a plain PDF without its tags. Lossless now keeps both, so it is the preset for shrinking archival files without touching their images.
- Other presets on PDF/A files - a compressed file could still claim to be PDF/A after compression broke its conformance, for example with the Ebook or Printer preset. The PDF/A label is now removed in that case, so the result is an honest plain PDF.
- Web preset - the description now gives 96 DPI, the resolution the preset uses.
